“Robot Arm Defeats Master Swordsman” sounds like the name of a particularly whacked-out Shaw Bros movie, but it’s actually an accurate description of a recent sword-wielding competition between swordsman Isao Machii and the Yaskawa Bushido industrial robot arm, in which the machine came out on top.
Of course, the “competition” is actually just an advertisement for the Yaskawa Electric Corporation, the company that (surprise!) makes the Yaskawa Bushido robot arm. But even in a direct head-to-head match-up, the robot would have some clear advantages over Isao Machii, as the robot was programmed with Machii’s moves in the first place (not to mention the fact that robots don’t get tired).
