Mr. Potato Head has been the de facto spokesperson for eating your vegetables for generations now, even though some would classify potatoes as a starch. Now, Hasbro has joined forces with FareShare, a UK anti-hunger charity organization to create a limited edition Wonky Mr. Potato Head toy, in order to celebrate the sometimes-wasted misshapen vegetables of the world.
Mr. Potato Head has long been a bastion of unrealistic and damaging body standards for potatoes, and the message of Wonky Mr. Potato Head is clear: it’s what’s inside the potato that counts. And that message extends to all forms of produce. Just because a squash or cucumber looks weird doesn’t mean you should throw it out.
If everybody in the world followed the example of Wonky Mr. Potato Head, the amount of global food waste would be significantly reduced. If you agree, you can place a bid on one of the limited edition toys at its eBay listing right here. But all you really have to do is eat an ugly potato, and Wonky Mr. Potato Head will have done his job.
