Titanic II

Just as some people watch movies like Full Metal Jacket or Apocalypse Now and think to themselves “I gotta join the military,” there are some people who saw Titanic and decided they’d love to sail on a ship just like the titular doomed craft of the movie…

Or one person, anyway: Australian Blue Star Line millionaire Clive Palmer, who has announced that his Titanic II replica first reported almost three years ago, will set sail in 2018.

The Titanic II is a $300-$400 million project, with the original boat replicated down to the smallest detail, except for a few technological advancements for modern convenience (and, hopefully, avoiding icebergs). One thing that won’t be the same as the original is the route, as this reboot will instead travel from Jiangsu, China to Dubai.

There are still a few details left to be hammered out before the Titanic II makes its maiden voyage in 2018, but in the meantime you can stay apprised of all available information on the project’s official site here.
