This summer, a new book-length celebration of the cheeseburger is coming to a shelf, and possibly a kitchen, near you. The World is Your Burger: A Cultural History honors the burger-with-cheese with “essays, photographs, and ephemera” assembled by author David Michaels.
The World is Your Burger can’t accurately be called a cookbook, even though it does include 12 recipes for unusual burgers that you can theoretically prepare at home. That’s because it will also trace the burger all the way back to its sometimes conventional origins, as well as its fast food incarnations from places like McDonald’s, White Castle, and more, with interviews with icons in the field of the cheeseburger.
A copy of The World is Your Burger: A Cultural History can be pre-ordered at Amazon here, where it’s priced at just under $25 and set to come out on June 5th. The burger lover in your life would probably prefer an actual cheeseburger, but those don’t make socially acceptable gifts in most cases.
