Casual fans may not realize this, and even if they have they almost certainly haven’t paused to consider the full implications of it, but the sprawling narrative we think of as the DC Universe that in one form or another goes all the way back to the 1930s has a somewhat glaring inconsistency: Its version of the United States of America is full of fictional cities like Metropolis, Gotham City, and Central City, but the country generally stays parallel to our own. This is the subject of a new video essay from Patrick (H) Willems entitled The Weird Problem With the DC Universe.
