As you’re probably already aware, The Simpsons is currently celebrating 25 years on the air, and they’re pulling some interesting stunts in the process. I’m not sure if their tribute to legendary Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki in their latest episode “Married to the Blob” counts as a stunt, but it’s worth checking out nevertheless.
That’s especially true if you’re a fan of Hayao Miyazaki’s work in films like Spirited Away and Kiki’s Delivery Service, both of which are referenced in the episode (along with others). And the homage is also appropriate given that Miyazaki recently announced his retirement from filmmaking—it’s just too bad they couldn’t get Miyazaki himself to work on the episode.
If you missed Sunday’s airing of The Simpsons‘ “Married to the Blob” episode, you can check out a clip of the show’s homage to Japanese animation legend Hayao Miyazaki for yourself below. And for more The Simpsons stuff, just walk around outside with your eyes open, I’m sure you’ll see something eventually.
