Generally when I write up weird sandwiches on here, the stakes of the sandwich in question are pretty much limited to the reader being able to try one for him or herself if they feel like it. But with The Silo at the Half Brothers Brewing Co. in Grand Forks, North Dakota, which is now NOT being served due to a cease and desist from another restaurant.
The Silo – and this will also explain why it’s called that – was intended as an homage to the Clubfoot sandwich from the Staggering Ox, a sandwich chain in Montana. Both sandwiches feature bread shaped into a cylinder in which the ingredients are placed, as seen in the photo above. But the Staggering Ox people didn’t see it as an homage, but instead a violation of their own intellectual property rights – and the rest is tragic sandwich history.
Read up on the case of The Silo, a sandwich now lost to history, right here.
