Stoner metal band Sleep released the genre’s definitive text in 1998, when Dopesmoker made its way to the world. Now, Sleep is back, with their first full-length release in 20 years. And naturally, The Sciences has come to us all on 4/20, when more people listen to Sleep than any other day of the year.
I dunno what to say about The Sciences since I haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet, but I do know it was something of a short-notice release. And when the band was asked in 2014 what a new album would hypothetically be like, the response was that it would be an “amalgamated effort of decades of riff immersion,” which is probably as good a description as any.
The Sciences is now streaming on your platform of choice, including Spotify below. And you can read a little bit more about the project over on NPR Music right here.
