It wasn’t so long ago that an Oliver Stone interview of Vladimir Putin would have pulled in mediocre ratings at best in the United States. But ever since news of Putin’s alleged meddling in the US presidential election hit the front page, Putin himself has become a mainstream infamous figure, which is why The Putin Interviews couldn’t have come at a better time.
Aside from his work as a filmmaker, Stone has distinguished himself as an interviewer of controversial political figures, including Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, and others. This puts The Putin Interviews squarely in his wheelhouse, but from Putin’s point of view it’s more or less unprecedented.
As per Showtime, “Putin has never before spoken at such length or in such detail to a Western interviewer, leaving no topic off limits.” I hope he asks him about La La Land!
You can see a teaser for The Putin Interviews below. The four-part series will begin on Showtime on June 12th.
