If you’re reading this from the United States, there’s an unfortunate chance that you might not be familiar with the work of mentalist Derren Brown. He’s popular and prolific in the UK, and now it seems he’s making his belated American television debut for Netflix, in a special called The Push.
Brown’s MO is basically demonstrating the limits of perception and the human mind, teaching viewers that we might not be as in control over our own lives as we like to believe. In The Push, that lesson takes the form of Brown manipulating a regular person into committing (what he believes to be) murder. Can he do it? As someone who is familiar with Brown’s work, let me go ahead and let you know the answer: Yes.
