Amazon is great for getting stuff shipped to you in frankly implausible periods of time, but the company has also gotten its share of bad press for exploitative working conditions faced by its warehouse and customer service employees. Now, many of those same employees are getting what might be a one-way ticket out: It’s known as “The Offer.”
The Offer is simple: A $5,000 flat fee for employees not committed to staying with Amazon to leave. Here’s Amazon company spokesperson Ashley Robinson with an explanation for the rationale behind the move:
“We want people working at Amazon who want to be here.”
“The goal is to encourage folks to take a moment and think about what they really want. In the long-term, we believe staying somewhere you don’t want to be isn’t healthy for our employees or for the company.”
