One of the very best things about the 2004 film Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story is its depiction of ESPN8 “The Ocho,” a clearinghouse for every obscure athletic competition known to man. Unfortunately for lovers of professional arm-wrestling and bowling trick-shot contests, ESPN8 isn’t a real channel – until today, when ESPNU is switching up formats for one day and one day only.
The transformation of ESPNU to The Ocho is presumably designed to honor today’s date: August 8th, the eightiest day of the year (not sure why they didn’t wait until 8/8/18 to do this, but whatever). It was announced via the official ESPN Twitter account, which also laid out the day’s programming:
It's here. It's actually here.

If you want to check in with ESPN8 “The Ocho,” or you’re just curious to find out what the “Championship of Bags” is, you can do so by tuning into ESPNU or getting the ESPN app. Hopefully, this will become an annual bold strategy for the channel.
