Filmmaker Terry Gilliam recently gave a disastrous interview essentially defending sexual predators, but that’s probably only the fourth or fifth biggest disaster ever to befall his latest project, a feature film adaptation of the classic novel Don Quixote that’s been in the works in one form or another for two decades. Now, we have a trailer for The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. which stars Adam Driver and Gilliam vet Jonathan Pryce.
The Man Who Killed Don Quixote seems to follow the familiar plot about a cracked old man who thinks he’s a heroic adventurer despite all evidence to the contrary, but with a modern-day time travel component. On a film history note, the novel was also the source of an unfinished project by another famously ambitious (but much more woke) filmmaker — Orson Welles. But Gilliam appears to have finally cracked it, unless the negative explodes in between now and its release. For now, a trailer for the film, released today:
The Man Who Killed Don Quixote is supposed to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month, so stay tuned.
