The long saga of The Interview may be approaching its final chapter with the announcement of The Interview: Freedom Edition. Since no aspect of this movie’s release has been normal, it would be foolish to expect a normal DVD/Blu-ray release. So it really shouldn’t be a surprise that Sony is looking to squeeze as many pennies as possible from the idea of The Interview being an icon of freedom of speech.
With home video release windows getting shorter all the time, the fact that The Interview: Freedom Edition is coming out in mid-February following a December theatrical release isn’t as shocking as it would have been just a few years ago. But the idea of a DVD release being (ironically?) touted as an act of patriotism is pretty funny.
Despite the lofty title, it appears that The Interview: Freedom Edition will be pretty standard as far as home video releases go, with the usual array of deleted scenes and extras helping viewers to let freedom ring. It’s set to come out on February 17th, and you can read a report on the film’s release here.
