Martin Scorsese‘s The Departed, like all of the director’s crime films, is a modern classic, popular among cinephiles, gangster freaks, and dads all over the world. So it’s a natural fit to be remade as a TV show, which is exactly what’s happening according to a report in Variety.
I don’t know if it’s common knowledge or not, but The Departed is actually itself a remake of the excellent Hong Kong cop thriller Infernal Affairs and its two sequels. So if you see anyone complaining about Hollywood remaking a sacred text like The Departed, you know they are automatically full of it. The small-screen reboot will follow “a young cop who infiltrates a Latino gang in Chicago and battles the gang’s own plant in the police department,” and it’ll be written by Jason Richman.
As an Amazon production, The Departed 2.0 will probably be available on Amazon Prime, but it’s in its very early stages so you probably shouldn’t hold your breath waiting. Stay tuned for more information, though, and shore yourself up in the meantime by checking out those Infernal Affairs movies if you haven’t already.
