Tesla founder/possible extraterrestrial Elon Musk has been teasing the next step in Tesla’s Model S for a while now, and all we had up to yesterday’s unveiling of the car was the letter D. Now, we know that D stands for “dual motor,” as in the two electric motors that make the Tesla Model S P85D one of the fastest electric cars in the world.
The Tesla Model S P85D electric supercar boasts an incredible 691 horsepower, and can hit the 60 mile per hour mark in 3.2 seconds. It also comes equipped with some appropriately futuristic technological features, like “adaptive cruise control,” which will probably go down in history as one of the milestones of self-driving cars, and the ability to read speed limit signs, which, given what this thing is capable of under the hood, is probably an important feature.
Priced at $120,000, the Tesla Model S P85D will ship out sometime later this year. For more information on the car, and other Tesla joints, check out the Tesla website here.
