Tom Hardy is pulling double duty with his next project, an FX original miniseries that he’s not just starring in, but that was his idea in the first place. To help the idea for Taboo become real, there’s acclaimed director Ridley Scott and the actor’s own father Chip on board as a “consulting producer.”
Said idea is that a former shipping heir, thought dead, returns from Africa in 1814 and basically starts messing things up for everybody thanks to his crazy jungle ways and (presumably) ahead-of-his-time social views. Taboo also stars Johnathan Pryce, Michael Kelly, and Oona Chaplin.
Here’s a plot synopsis:
“Set in 1814, Taboo follows James Keziah Delaney, a man who has been to the ends of the earth and comes back irrevocably changed. Believed to be long dead, he returns home to London from Africa to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire and rebuild a life for himself. But his father’s legacy is a poisoned chalice, and with enemies lurking in every dark corner, James must navigate increasingly complex territories to avoid his own death sentence. Encircled by conspiracy, murder, and betrayal, a dark family mystery unfolds in a combustible tale of love and treachery.”
It sounds pretty cool, and the first trailer for Taboo promises a lot of violence, drama, a solid Tom Hardy accent, and all the other ingredients that make a hit in 2016.
