If the average person is asked to describe a typical surfer, the resulting description would probably be a depressing array of Southern California clichés, possibly with a few Beach Boys references thrown in. But the actual culture of surfing is worldwide and diverse, which is what the new book Surf Odyssey: The Culture of Wave Riding seeks to illustrate.
Surf Odyssey offers “spectacular photography” documenting all four corners of the surfing world, from obvious hotspots in Hawaii to cold-water surfing destinations in Norway. Illustrations and customized boards are also found in the book, which would make a great coffee-table centerpiece in your time relaxing between attempts to catch the perfect wave.
Copies of Surf Odyssey: The Culture of Wave Riding went on sale yesterday on Amazon, and right now they’re priced at just a little over $37. You can get yours, or get a little bit more info on the book, at its Amazon listing here.
