Fifteen years ago this November, Super Smash Bros. Melee smashed its way onto the Nintendo GameCube console, going on to become its best-selling title. Now, 30 animators have teamed up to recreate its famous introductory sequence, for a project called Super Smash Bros. Melee Reanimated
Super Smash Bros. Melee Reanimated encompasses as many different animation styles as it does animators, but recaptures the visuals of the original intro in exacting detail – so exacting, that it’s likely to give you nostalgic flashbacks if you used to play the game back in the day. It wasn’t made with any official involvement from Nintendo, but hopefully a tribute like this falls under “fair use” and won’t be subject to any legal disputes.
You can watch Super Smash Bros. Melee Reanimated for yourself below, and in case you need a refresher on the original intro sequence I’ve embedded it as well. And for more animation in a similar vein, check out The Reanimation Station on YouTube right here.
