I’ve never used an electric skateboard, but apparently excessive weight is an issue with most of them – I guess it’s a problem akin to the automatic drive on push lawnmowers, which adds a lot of extra weight to the mower. But there’s a company taking to Kickstarter with a design they say is for “the world’s lightest electric skateboard,” and it’s called Stary.
Stary weighs a little over eight and a half pounds, a relatively light weight that its makers achieved by foregoing the usual motor and battery pack. Instead, the board’s power is found directly in its wheels, controlled via wireless remote and propelling the board up to a top speed of 18.6 miles per hour.
If you pre-order a Stary skateboard on the product’s Kickstarter page here, you can save as much as 400 bucks compared to the suggested retail price when it comes out later this year (November, to be precise).
