Star Trek and Transformers are two science-fiction adventure franchises that have captivated fans for decades. Now, the crew of the Starship Enterprise and the Autobots are meeting up, not in a Paramount feature film but a comic book miniseries called Star Trek vs. Transformers from writers John Barber and Mike Johnson and artist Philip Murphy. Johnson spoke up on the project in a press statement to io9:
“This is a crossover several decades in the making, and we could not be more thrilled to bring it to fans … John and I are having a blast writing the first meeting of Starfleet and Cybertronians, and Phil is the perfect artist to bring these two franchises together on the page.”
The four issue series (which for some reason is not titled Optimus Prime Directive) will be visually inspired by both the original Transformers cartoon as well as Star Trek: The Animated Series, and you’ll be able to see it on comic store shelves this September.
