Music is possibly the closest thing we have to time travel, at least in the emotional sense – there’s no better way to take you back to how you felt at a certain time and place in the past than to listen to whatever music was playing at that time. Spotify has a new custom playlist feature that seeks to transport you back to your carefree high school days: The Spotify Time Capsule.
Now, a project like the Spotify Time Capsule calls for one to get a little bit personal, so here goes – I was one of those weird kids who didn’t really get into bands and stuff until my senior year, so I cannot claim that the playlist Spotify whipped up for me took me back to my high school days as advertised. But it did seem to be populated with music from my late 90s/early 2000s heyday that I have discovered since, like The Coup, Pavement, Fiona Apple, The Pharcyde, MF Doom, Nine Inch Nails, Outkast, and many more. To reiterate: I was nowhere near cool enough to be into any of those artists as a teen, but I’m always happy to listen to them now.
If you have a Spotify account you can check out your own Spotify Time Capsule right here.
