Despite its somewhat unappealing name, the Spitbank Fort nestled in the middle of the English Channel makes an ideal spot for an unusual luxury resort. So thought Mike Clare, the now-owner of the Spitbank Fort Sea Hotel.

The Spitbank Fort Sea Hotel is divided into “Commodore Rooms” and “Admiral Suites,” as well as the “Crow’s Nest,” which is the hotel’s most exclusive room designed for its most affluent guests. An overnight stay at the hotel starts at around $750, which might be doable for those less-affluent guests with a little bit of financial savvy.
