Rumors have been churning for years now about a belated follow up to 1996’s Space Jam starring LeBron James — a savvy move from a commercial standpoint, given the current fervor surrounding the return of various 90s properties and James’ new second career as an actor in stuff like Trainwreck. But now, Space Jam 2 has been officially announced by Warner Bros., and it would appear there’s no way to stop it.
The announcement was made originally in The Hollywood Reporter, which also reports that director Justin Lin is attached to the project. Lin’s involvement at least bodes well for the movie’s cartoon basketball action scenes, given his history with the kinetic Fast & Furious franchise. But none of that matters since this is going to make a billion dollars regardless.
You can read the original THR story here, and the hilarious poster image up at the top appears to be a Hypebeast joint. I’d tell you to keep your eyes peeled for more info on Space Jam 2, but given the approaching marketing blitz, you aren’t going to be able to avoid it.
