Sony has announced its plans to release a waterproof camera, the Sony Cyber-Shot RX100. Set for release this July, the Cyber-Shot RX100 is the company’s flagship model in its line of compact cameras designed for point-and-shoot users in mind.
The Sony Cyber-Shot RX100 comes with a few DSLR features, like a 20.2-megapixel sensor, but it still comes in a slim and compact body, which makes it a perfect backup camera for serious photographers as well as amateur enthusiasts.
To make up for the lack of interchangeable lenses, the RX100’s lens can produce a defocused effect for the illusion of depth of field, which blurs the background while focusing on the subject. It is also equipped with a 3.6x optical zoom.
The camera can capture high resolution images as well as record HD video. But it won’t be cheap, with an expected price tag of $650.
