Adding a USB wall outlet to your home is a great way to update it for the 21st century—a daunting and scary time when, if you’re not careful, you won’t have any free outlets in your house at all because of all the devices that need charging. But they usually require an electrician’s handiwork to install, at least until the SnapPower Charger comes around.
Unlike most USB charger coverplates, the SnapPower Charger doesn’t require any wiring at all to install. Instead, it draws energy from the screws used to fasten the outlet to the wall – in other words, all you need to put one in your house is a screwdriver and a minute or two.
The SnapPower Charger is currently blowing up Kickstarter, with (as of this writing) over $613,000 raised compared to an original goal of just $35,000. And it’s still got more than a month to go here, where you can pre-order one for $16.
