If you see a teen or two walking around your neighborhood wearing huge, cartoon-like sunglasses, don’t be alarmed: They’re just Snapchat Spectacles. Spectacles are Snapchat’s first entry into the hardware game, and they represent a new chapter in the saga of wearable tech.
Snapchat Spectacles sync up with Snapchat, recording 10 seconds of video with a properly-placed flick near the shades’ hinges. While it’s recording, lights on the frames let your friends and any random passerby know they’re being filmed, so you’re unlikely to see Spectacles used in any espionage context any time soon. Each pair is charged in its case, sync via either WiFi or Bluetooth, and come in three color choices: Black, blue, and orange.
Release details are still to come, but a pair of Snapchat Spectacles will set you back about $130 once they do come out. In the meantime, you can get a lot more information on the product right here.
