The DVR is probably one of the coolest innovations of the 21st century, but most of them still carry one big limitation: You can only watch it at home. There are lots of solutions to this, including services like HBO Go, but Slingbox was there first. And now Sling has come out with the new Slingbox M1, with WiFi and Ethernet built right in.
The Slingbox M1 is a set-top box that shoots live programming and stuff recorded on your DVR to your smartphone, tablet, or another TV in 1080p high definition. And it can do this no matter where you are, even if that’s outside the country. There are no blacked out programs, and there are no monthly fees.
If that sounds cool to you, you can get a lot more information on the Slinbox M1 from Sling’s website here. It drops on July 20th, but if you’re one of those impatient types you can place your pre-order now at just under $150.
