Jay-Z‘s “full-service entertainment company,” called Roc Nation, recently launched a new athletic management wing to their brand. It goes by the name of “Roc Nation Sports,” and their first order of business was to sign Yankees‘ star Robinson Cano (in a partnership with the more established firm, Creative Artists Agency).
It’s definitely a good move for Cano, since Roc Nation Sports’ partner CAA has currently negotiated over $1.1 billion in MLB contracts since 2011, with four of those contracts exceeding $100 million. Those kinds of numbers make them the most successful sports agency in the game at the moment. And with Cano’s contract set to run out at the end of the year, he should be in line for a monster payday from any MLB team that has enough cash to throw at the All-Star second baseman, should he fail to agree on an extension with the Yankees before the end of the season.
The announcement came in the form of a press release from Roc Nation, which you can check out in full here.
