Digital news outlet Quartz has launched a new app, and it’s decidedly different from the usual news site mobile app. It’s billed as “news in a whole new way,” and its user interface is similar to an ongoing text message with someone who stays really up to date on current events.
The Quartz app works like this: When a story breaks, you get a notification, and if you tap into it, a window that looks just like an ongoing text message exchange opens up, with info on the story provoked by a followup question–or you can just say “next” and see a new story. It’s just like talking to your friends, if your friends gave canned responses based on one-word commands.
It will probably take some getting used to, but the good news is that the new Quartz app is free at the iTunes Store here, so you’re not giving anything up but time to try it out.
