Video game franchises more iconic than Tony Hawk Pro Skater probably exist, but it’s a short list. So it’s fitting that the game that ultimately became just as famous as the man would now be getting a documentary about its history: Pretending I’m a Superman: The Tony Hawk Video Game Story.
Pretending I’m a Superman will feature interviews from key figures involved in the development of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater franchise, on both the development and the skating sides. Members of the Neversoft team behind the games are included, as well as the man himself, Tony Hawk. Here’s the full description, courtesy of the makers of the documentary themselves:
“The Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series goes down in history as one of the most successful video game franchises ever. Pro Skater 2 is recognized as the second best video game of all time by Metacritic. The series impacted skateboarding and lifted the industry to an all time high. It inspired people to skate all across the globe. Pretending I’m a Superman examines the untold story of the team of developers and skaters that created the series and the cultural phenomenon that ensued.”
Unlike Tony Hawk Pro Skater video games, the Pretending I’m a Superman doc needs fan support to actually become a reality, and you can contribute to the project’s IndieGoGo campaign right here. If you’re still not convinced, you can take a look at its initial trailer below.
