I never really mastered chess as a kid, and one of the reasons for that (apart from my non-tactical thinking processes) is that every game takes so long to set up, the odds of me getting bored and wanting to read Squadron Supreme again were higher and higher with each game. But maybe if I’d had Preset Chess, I’d be a chess master by now.
Preset Chess is a design so simple and ingenious that I’m kind of surprised it’s taken this long for it to become available. Instead of having to meticulously place each chess piece on its respective square on the board, you simply place the specially designed piece-holder over the board and unlock the pieces, like so:
Recommended play with the Preset Chess involves putting each piece back in the holder as its captures, so you don’t even have to go through the hassle of a full clean-up after the battle is won or lost.
