Online streaming is the way of the future, so it follows that Sony would want to get in on the action at some point. And so they have with PlayStation Vue, a new streaming service for the PlayStation 3 and 4 that’s gotten a limited rollout in select US cities, with many more to follow.
PlayStation Vue offers users live and on-demand programming consisting of TV shows, movies, sporting events, and more, all with no cable or satellite subscription required. But if you’re under the impression that Vue will be comparable to Netflix or Hulu Plus in terms of pricing, you’re unfortunately mistaken, as it starts at the very cable-like price point of $49.99 a month, with an “Elite” option with more channels and programming available for $69.99 a month.
Still, it’s an exciting chapter of the ongoing development of online entertainment streaming. For now, though, PlayStation Vue is only available to PlayStation 3 and 4 users in New York, Chicago, and Philadelphia. A wider rollout is expected to happen very soon, but you can see more on the service at Sony’s official Vue site here no matter where you live.
