We live in a an exciting/creepy new era in which whenever a major artist dies, they merely begin the next phase of their output. That’s especially true of Prince, who is believed to have had enough material locked away in his vault to power three or four music careers, and the latest announcement from The Purple One’s estate is that an entire unreleased album from early in the funk god’s career is coming in September. It’s called Piano & A Microphone, and if that title sounds familiar to you, the estate’s press release announcing the project can explain why:
“This raw, intimate recording, which took place at the start of Prince’s career right before he achieved international stardom, is similar in format to the Piano & A Microphone Tour that he ended his career with in 2016. The Estate is excited to be able to give fans a glimpse of his evolution and show how his career ultimately came full circle with just him and his piano.”
While it’s likely that fans are divided on whether they’d prefer to hear more than just a Piano & A Microphone from the renowned multi-instrumentalist, the album’s release in September is unarguably a major one for everyone who’s been interested in what Prince was keeping inside his legendary vault. The record will hit all major formats on September 21st, and you can get all the advance details right here.
