If Los Angeles timelapse videos aren’t a dime a dozen, they’re at most a penny a pop. But filmmaker Joe Capra has created the Citizen Kane of Los Angeles timelapse videos, a process that took him an impressive two years in Earth time. It’s called Pano LA, and it depicts the City of Angels from myriad angles and at every point of day and night.
But even if you didn’t know about the technical effort that went into making Pano LA, it would still be an impressive video by timelapse standards. Capra has a great eye for choosing ideal filming locations and angles, and the city itself is beautiful and interesting enough to support the countless filmmakers and other artists that have been inspired by it since the Mack Sennett days. So six minutes of sold-gold timelapse footage isn’t too much of a stretch.
