The adidas Superstar line has been around since 1969, and in the intervening 45+ years the word “superstar” itself has been degraded nearly to the point of meaninglessness. At least, that appears to be the premise behind the new #OriginalSuperstar ad from adidas Originals.
#OriginalSuperstar stars Pharrell Williams, David Beckham, Rita Ora and Damian Lillard, each of whom are charged with the task of defining what the word “superstar” means to them. Their answers are sort of opaque, climaxing with a (spoiler alert) claim that the stars of the video are not superstars under any of the usual definitions. Ambiguity is hot in 2015.
If you’ve got 90 seconds to spare, you can watch the #OriginalSuperstar adidas Originals ad, directed by Karum Huu Do, for yourself below. And to see the new adidas Superstar sneaker collection itself, head over to the adidas online store here, where the shoes are available right now.
