We told you over the summer about Olivia Culpo when she was crowned Miss USA. And now we can tell you that she’s gone one step above that in the pageantry ladder, having been named Miss Universe.

That’s pretty much the top spot as far as beauty pageants are concerned, but it does come with an interesting caveat. Apparently, it’s against regulations for the same person to hold the Miss USA and Miss Universe crowns simultaneously. As a result, Miss USA runner-up Nana Meriweather will now step in as the new Miss USA.

Even more interesting is the fact that this is the first time in 15 years that a Miss USA victor went on to win Miss Universe, since it last happened back in 1997.  All of these factors combined make Culpo’s accomplishments that much more impressive.

Congrats Olivia!
