The Nike Air Rift gave runners the most minimalist running shoe possible back in 1996, the year it was released, and now that sneaker is making a quasi-comeback in the form of an even more minimalist shoe style: The sandal. It’s the NikeLab Free Rift Sandal, combining Nike Free technology with a Rift-like one-piece upper.
The resulting NikeLab Free Rift Sandal has the aesthetic of the famous Nike Air Rift, combined with the support, durability, and other features offered by Nike Free hexagonal flex grooves in the sole. You probably shouldn’t try to run a marathon in it, but it’s great for checking the mail – which is really all you need in a sandal.
In both black and white colorways, the NikeLab Free Rift Sandal will be available from NikeLab here starting on May 7th, with a wider release to other select NikeLab retailers happening a few weeks after that on May 28th.
