Sneakerheads are always looking at movie characters’ feet to check out what they’re wearing (which is probably the most innocent reason to be checking out movie characters’ feet), and one of the movies that gives them the most whiplash has always been Back to the Future Part II thanks to the Nike MAG.
Now, Universal Studios, who own the rights to the Back to the Future franchise, has officially licensed a replica of the famous Nike MAG. It’s not actually a Nike product though, so no Swoosh. In point of fact, it’s more of a costume piece, being sold at the moment mostly from Halloween specialty retailers, who tend to lean heavily on the fact that the shoes light up like in the movie (you have to keep them charged up via USB for this to work, though).
As you might have already guessed, these replica Nike MAGs don’t actually lace themselves up like they do in Back to the Future Part II, but according to the Nike MAG Wikipedia page, there is a more faithful rendition of the sneaker rumored for release sometime next year. While that might be just another hoverboard hoax, you can take a look at the currently available Nike MAG replica sneakers here. And there are some photos of the shoes in the gallery below – why don’t you make like a tree and take a look?
