Sneaker brand New Balance has something in its arsenal called the “Great Novel” collection, which takes inspiration from great novels and uses it to make sneakers. And so we have the Olive New Balance 1400, a sneaker explicitly said by New Balance to be inspired by the iconic 1961 novel Catch-22 by Joseph Heller.
I’m going to crassly reveal a little bit of ignorance here and admit that I haven’t read Catch-22 (although by some weird coincidence a copy from the library is sitting on my living room table right now, waiting to be read), so I’m not sure how closely these New Balance 1400s follow that novel. I do know that the sneaker’s Olive colorway is sort of military-adjacent, so that puts it in Catch-22‘s wheelhouse for sure.
But if you have caught up with Catch-22, and you want a pair of sneakers to prove it, you can get the new Olive New Balance 1400 from select retailers like this one, where it’s priced at a high-brow $160. And you can see a few photos of the sneaker in the gallery below.
