National Geographic is famous for the eye-popping photographs that are featured within its pages. So a photography contest sponsored by the magazine makes perfect sense.
Now, the magazine has announced the winner (you can see the winners of the “Nature,” “People,” and “Places” categories via the above gallery).
You can check out all of the winners, finalists and Viewers’ Choice winners for each of the categories here. And as you’ll see, there’s a pretty amazing mix of photos, from wildlife in their natural habitats, to human beings in conditions that many of us would find impossible to imagine. The grand prize winning photo, seen above and entitled “The Explosion!,” was taken by Ashley Vincent (it’s the one of the wet Tiger).
The finalists, which are comprised of a mix of professional and amateur photographers, were competing for a $10,000 prize, as well as the chance to visit National Geographic‘s headquarters in Washington DC for a photography seminar. Clearly, this is a dream come true for many photographers.
Congrats Ashley!
