There must be something floating around in the cultural air these days to make people interested in some nebulous cyberpunk future. First there was Blade Runner 2049, then we have the upcoming Netflix series Altered Carbon, and now there’s Mute, a movie by Duncan Jones (director, Netflix is eager to remind us all, of Moon, Source Code, and Warcraft) that appears to fit neatly in that same aesthetic context.
Mute takes place in 2052 Berlin, where a silent bartender has to find his missing girlfriend somewhere in the Berlin underworld. For help, he’s got Paul Rudd (making this a good day for Paul Rudd movie trailers) – but beyond that the trailer is more focused on mood and SFX than it is on plot, which is totally fine with me, for one. Take a look:
Mute, which stars Alexander Skarsgård, Paul Rudd, and Justin Theroux, hits your own Netflix account on February 23rd, 2018.
