The platonic ideal of a smartwatch will probably eventually be a smartwach that doesn’t look like a smartwatch, which is pretty much the exact opposite approach Apple took with their Apple Watch. But Mondaine seems to realize this fact, as evidenced by the unveiling of the Mondaine Helvetica Smartwatch.
The Mondaine Helvetica Smartwatch is the product of Mondaine CEO Andre Bernheim and designer Martin Dreschel, who set out to develop a watch that combined classical style with modern technological features, like sleep monitoring and synchronization with other mobile devices and apps. And the Smart 1957 special edition of the watch is also a limited edition, with only 2,000 watches slated to be made available to the public.
Even if you’re unlikely to be able to grab one of those 2,000 pieces, you can vicariously appreciate the Mondaine Helvetica Smartwatch by watching the promotional video below. And for more on the watch and the brand, check out the official Mondaine site right here.
