Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson doesn’t often get a chance to honor his Hawaiian heritage on film, but the upcoming Disney animated feature Moana will give him just such a chance. In the movie, he plays Maui, a Polynesian demigod—think of him as the traditional Hawaiian answer to Hercules.
You might have noticed that Johnson hasn’t gotten the title role in Moana—that would be reserved for “a born navigator who sets sail in search of a fabled island” and is joined by Maui for the adventure. I’m just guessing here, but they probably become good friends and exchange wisecracks along the way, you know, stuff like that.
The first teaser trailer for Moana, which happens to be the 56th official Disney animated motion picture, can be seen below. The movie hits theaters on November 23rd, and you can check out its official page at Disney’s website right here.
