In a move that will probably shock those that were expecting her to bite the head off of a teddy bear or something, Miley Cyrus delivered a relatively straightforward rendition of her song “Wrecking Ball” at Sunday night’s American Music Awards. There was one weird thing, though: She was singing in front of a massive animated cat GIF the entire time.
It’s a stage design choice that seems intended to get people to talk about it on the internet, and what do you know, it’s working. Other than the cat and the low-fi computer graphics, it was a restrained performance from Cyrus, and it got a pretty enthusiastic response from the audience.
