New from designer David Shatz is an invention that would make Doc Savage proud — a tent that you can wear on your back like a backpack when it’s folded up. It’s called Melina, and unfortunately for all the would-be adventurers out there it’s only a concept piece for now.
Melina was conceived “under the guidance of designer Tal Gor, as part of the hospitality studio in the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem,” and other than that there isn’t a ton of information out there about the product. But the important thing is clear just from looking at it — an accordion-style collapsing tent that condenses into a backpack.
Even though you can’t buy or use Melina now, you can get what little information there is to be had at its Designboom page right here. And hopefully some industrious wealthy person out there will try to get it into production in the near future.
