The United Arab Emirates has its eyes on Mars for a new project that will cost more than $136 million. It’s called Mars Science City, and the goal of the project is to simulate life on Mars for an unspecified number of individuals who will be participating in the biggest space-simulation project ever constructed. HH Sheikh Mohammed had this to say about the project:
The new project is another step in the UAE’s leading contributions to the global science movement; we seek to set an example and motivation for others to participate, and contribute, to humanity’s march into space.”
Mars Science City will act as a prelude to an eventual human settlement on Mars, assuming the human race does actually make it there and doesn’t use up all its resources constructing Martian facsimiles before then. But hey, as they say, if you can’t send man to Mars, bring Mars to man, or something.
