Since the retirement of the Concorde in 2003, supersonic air travel has become restricted to a highly select group. But now, XCOR Aerospace has announced plans to bring it back to the consumer marketplace with the Lynx, a suborbital spacecraft that takes off and lands just like a regular jet. However, this is no regular jet, seeing as how it “cruises” at Mach 3.5 at an altitude of 62 miles!
Test flights are scheduled to begin early next year in the hopes of finalizing the current design plans. But once it becomes a reality, passengers will be able to fly from New York City to Tokyo, Japan in just 90 minutes!
Believe it or not, you can already begin purchasing your Lynx suborbital flight ticket now for a reasonable price of $95,000. Included in that cost is a medical screening and G-Force training at one of XCOR’s operating locations. To find out more about the Lynx or to book your flight today, click here.
