Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (yes, the original title made “chainsaw” two words for some reason) has spawned an expansive franchise, with sequels, remakes, sequels to the remakes, and now a new prequel is gonna take it all back to the probably wonderful childhood of the man who also gives the movie its title: Leatherface.
When I saw they were making a prequel to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre about Leatherface as a kid, I kind of hoped that maybe he would be given some unexpected upbringing, like being a Korean calculus prodigy who somehow ended up a killer barbecue monster in Texas. But no, it appears from the recently released trailer for the film that he grew up pretty much how you’d expect: In a horrifying Texas home full of creepy dolls and other horror signifiers.
