It’s been a while since director Richard Linklater made a movie with actual stars in it – his last two features, Everybody Wants Some and Boyhood both had lead performances from relative unknowns. But the filmmaker’s upcoming film Last Flag Flying boasts a pretty solid ensemble of Steve Carrell, Bryan Cranston, and Laurence Fishburne.
Last Flag Flying is intended as a “spiritual sequel” to the quintessential 70s movie The Last Detail, and like that film features a cross country road trip by members (in this case former members) of the military. Carrell’s character’s son has been killed in action, and the three are supposed to attend his funeral, but along the way things get a bit more complicated.
You can get a taste of those complications by watching the new trailer for Richard Linklater’s Last Flag Flying below. The movie is currently slated to come out on November 3rd, 2017.
